I found the same behaviour. Plasma crash in different conditions (i.e. different applications running) recovering with a black screen with just an incomplete default panel and the cursor. I have made a new user with a fresh configuration and after some time the same thing happens. Removing the ~/.cache directory and killing the display manager solves the problem but I lost all the plasma configuration.
