Public bug reported:

Support for `nat` routes has been dropped in 2.6 according to `man ip
route`, yet invoking `sudo ip route add nat 192.168.178.30 via
192.168.179.1` prints `RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument` which should
be `support for adding NAT routes has been dropped in Linux 2.6, see
'man ip route' for more details. Consider using [the alternative to nat
routes] instead` because there's no sense in giving less feedback than
possible.
