Sorry I do not understand your question. I have resolved keeping the old 12.04 kernel when updating to 14.04. Thanks to [...] that update program keeps the old kernel. If I tried a new install of 14.04 on that hardware it would result a mission impossible. I am afraid it could not be the only hardware affected of that bug. Since 14.04 is a "stable" release I thought that it could have been appreciated to know that 14.04 is uninstallable on some machines. The good news is that it is still usable with a new install of a 15.04. I really do not understand why a vivid (15.04) kernel backported on a 14.04 still hangs the machine but a live not...???
