The Setup: VirtualBox 2 x 8GB disks Software RAID 1 or 10: md0 = 1GB /boot bootable md1 = 7GB LVM (1GB swap, 6GB root) - encrypted for (1) below so the initial setup looks like... for test 1: Software RAID > encrypted volume > LVM for test 2: Software RAID > LVM The issues (tested on VirtualBox with and on 14.04.2): 1. Boot of encrypted LVM RAID system hangs when disk is removed. Last boot messages are: Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... No volume groups found No volume groups found Begin: waiting for encrypted source device... ... 2. Boot of UNencrypted LVM RAID system hangs when disk is removed and replaced.
