Cameron can you please try running MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 firefox and see if you are able to reproduce it. if not please follow the instructions at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs on trying with a new profile. I had Bart use new profile and problem no longer was reproducible at this time.
