I can still boot into the kernel from Ubuntu 15.04: uname -r 3.19.0-28-generic
The touchscreen works in this kernel. To be clear, I'm booting into Ubuntu 15.10 using the above kernel entry in grub 2 menu. I did it as a test not thinking it would boot but it does and the touchscreen works properly.
