At the time when this report was sent, Ubuntu MATE 15.10 had a mix of 1.8 and 1.10 packages, which could possibly affect the stability of the system. In particular, there was a problem with python-caja, and the attachment of this report indicates the related problem as well (python-caja can't find libpython2.7.so.1.0). However, near the end of September 2015 the python-caja problem has been fixed [1], and MATE has been fully synced with 1.10 from Debian Unstable [2]. It seems to me this report can be closed now.
