Public bug reported: Hi,
the XFCE Applications Menu doesn't handle Category "Science" in a desktop file. In fact, a Science stanza is missing in /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu In addition, a file /usr/share/desktop-directories/xfce-science.directory should be provided as well. As a consequence, scientific applications frequently show up in "Education" only, which is not always the appropriate place, or even in "Other". I consider this a bug, because the "garcon" package claims explicitly to be "compliant with the Desktop Menu Specification of freedesktop.org". They list "Science" as a "Main Category", that "every conforming desktop environment MUST support", see http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apa.html Regards, Burkhard Bunk. Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS libgarcon-common 0.3.0-1ubuntu2 Remarks: 1. KDE has a menu entry "Science & Math", which merges "Science" with the Additional Category "Math". This looks very reasonable to me. 2. I checked that the latest source package garcon_0.4.0-2 in Debian omits "Science" support as well. ** Affects: garcon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1524441 Title: xfce application menu fails to handle Category Science To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/garcon/+bug/1524441/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
