I would like to provide you with a workaround, how I fixed that issue on
my Dell XPS 14z:

$ sudo modprobe i8k force=1

If that works add the "options i8k force=1" on the new line to
/etc/modprobe.d/options:

$ sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/options

And try to repeat steps that were failing.
