You have been subscribed to a public bug: When searching for software in the Software Center the search algorithm gives poor results making it very difficult to find the desired software or discover new software.
For example, searching "system monitor" the top result is the KDE System Monitor (ksysguard). Searching "Gnome System Monitor" the top result is Camera Monitor (cameramonitor). The only way to get the default Ubuntu system monitor to show up at all is to search the exact application name "gnome-system-monitor". The results are so bad that omitting even one of the dashes by searching "gnome-system monitor" will give no results at all! These results are undesireable because even experienced users are unlikely to know applications by their binary file names. How many Ubuntu users know that Document Viewer's real name is Evince? In order to provide a better experience for new and experienced users the search results should be improved. ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Tags: u1-notrack -- Ubuntu Software Center returns poor search results. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1190016 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
