1. download the three deb packages that correspond to your architecture (the 
*all* package, then *most commonly* the generic+amd64 ones)
2. open a terminal and cd to the Downloads folder
3. install the packages with dpkg (e.g. sudo dpkg -i *-4.4.0-040400rc5*.deb)
4. restart and make sure that you're using the new kernel (it's probably using 
it by default, else check your bootloader config)

by the way, can anyone else confirm?
