As far as I can tell, this is not an Ubuntu kernel bug. The cited NVIDIA configure options shown in the kernel config are for the nvidiafb module, which is present and should be loadable. The 'nvidia.ko' module appears to refer to a module from cuda, not from the upstream Linux kernel. Loading this module leads to a crash, but that cuda package is not part of Ubuntu and would need to be debugged with the provider of that module.
