I noticed this with a different font using the native OpenType/CFF
(.otf) hinter. Is has to do with making the overshoot on top-round
letters (e.g. a, e, o) visible, shifting diacritics upwards by the same
amount as the round top. Note how flat-top letters like i, u, and y
align to each other.
