  Libpng 1.6 has been out for a little while, apparently it has some
  important fixes for pngquant (which is also in Ubuntu).  There are
  comments here that maybe useful:

  Presumably at some point libpng1.2 will be EOL so we'll need to upgrade
  anyhow!
