My laptop is a TOSHIBA Satellite L40-D and I'm having the same issue with the Alcor Card Reader
$ lspci Unassigned class [ff00]: Device [1aea:6601] This is running Ubuntu 15.04 on 3.19.0-47 Cards inserted never even get detected by the system.
