I installed also gutsy on my desktop pc and googleearth works fine. The desktop pc has an NVidia 6600GT Graphics card but my laptop has an ATI X700...
So probably it is a specific error for ati/gutsy/amd64/googleearth and not a gutsy/amd64/googleearth problem... I Also found that post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=529932 The guy says that by installing the latest ATI Drivers using envy solves that problem...
