For anyone still waiting: If you're ok with doing a little bit of editing on the patch files, open-vm-tools 10.0.5 from github works fine on 15.10 - including hgfs and copy/paste sharing. (although I just did it an hour ago, so may not spotted other issues) Just make sure you apply all relevant patches from the 9.10.xx version.
