Hi. I have exactly the same problem but with a Lenovo Thinkpad T460s.
This is most likely acpi related as I can boot with acpi=off and the freeze does not occur when I close the lid. I also noticed that acpi=pm does not resolve the problem. The bug also occurs during the cryptsetups ask-password screen on boot right after grub when you close the lid. Suspend mode works without any problems when I enter it by clicking on the button.
