I have also filed a report on this issue upstream: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=763637
** Description changed: - When I installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 I selected "English (UK)" as my language. However when I then went into programs such as Firefox and GIMP, only the default language was there as a spell-checker etc which was "English (US)", and when going into "System Settings > Region & Language" there are only options to install new languages, but not all of the necessary language packs for the currently installed language pack(s) which are not fully installed. - So then if I want "English (UK)" in all my applications I have to install the "language-selector-gnome" package which will immediately ask me to install all the necessary language packs for my applications which haven't been installed yet. But as this area of the System Settings is meant to replace that package, it shouldn't need for that package to be installed to get all the features, such as one of the most important ones, being able to check which language packs should be installed, and installing those which are meant to be installed but are not currently installed, like my "English (UK)" language packs for the most of my applications. + When I installed Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 with GNOME 3.18 I selected "English + (UK)" as my language. However when I then installed other programs such + as GIMP and LibreOffice, and used Firefox I found that language for + spell checkers etc was "English (US)", and this would be because the + default is that and the correct language packs for all these programs + have not been installed. + + I have found that the only way to install all the needed language packs + is to install the language-selector-gnome. Because when started it will + say "Some translations or writing aids available for your chosen + languages are not installed yet. Do you want to install them now?" and + give you the option to install them, however when starting the gnome- + control-center and going to the "Region & Language" section there is no + such prompt, and in fact no way to install additional language packs for + the chosen language. + + And as the language-selector-gnome does actually break some stuff and is + a Unity thing, one should need to install it on GNOME, there should be + an easy way of doing it through the built-in tools made available to the + user. ** Tags added: wily xenial ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #763637 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=763637 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1525281 Title: The user should be prompted to install language packs needed for their selected language(s) which are not currently installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1525281/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
