Not only network is unstable in Gutsy Beta but last kernel update kill also sound and avahi daemon returned with bug. It seems that all applets (Tomboy, NM-applet and others) appearing on top panel has problems with gnome. There was one instance that Gutsy disabled all applets installed on superior panel in order to start Gnome.
