The "nv" driver supports xrandr for g80 chipsets. I don't know if the NVS 110M falls into this category - wikipedia says it's a g72 core, so perhaps not.
Justin, can you attach your /var/log/Xorg.X.log after the crash? Hopefully it can give a clearer picture of why it failed. David, since your issue is a separate one (crashing trying to use dual- head with vesa), could you please report it as a separate bug?
