Comment by the author of the bug report: Taking cue from Raymond's comments I managed to get sound from the Realtek circuits. I used "sudo hdajackretask" to change the pins' assignments. The whole procedure is easy though a bit elaborate, but I do not know how to write a permanent programmatic fix. If xenial's developers do not manage to solve the problem in some weeks time and I find someone asking for help in askubuntu, I will post there my complete solution.
