1. @eiro tried systemctl enable mysql.service then sudo service mysql start and problem is same as before then opened mysql workbench 6.3 it shows server is stopped so i clicked start server and the response is Unhandled exception: TextBox_append_text_with_encoding() takes exactly 3 arguments (4 given) so maybe mysqlworkbench also needs an update - it was working perfectly up to now
2. @rick removed my.cnf (mysqld.cnf doesnt exist) sudo update sudo upgrade same error as before "mysql-server depends in mysql-server-5.7 however mysql-server 5-7 is not yet configured" anyway, no sweat, i have mysql server57 running in a virtual win7 machine and am back programming. I lost a lot of time over it so i'll wait until next weekend and remove mysql completely and do a clean install many thanks for the help -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1573624 Title: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.11-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1573624/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
