I also have the same problem. The two symbolic links workaround worked
for me.
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu

$ kdeinit5 --version
Qt: 5.5.1
KDE: 5.18.0
$ kdeinit4 --version
