Details below: (1) Downloaded packages from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /network-manager-applet/1.2.0-0ubuntu3/+build/9813691 and install them to a Xenial system. (2) Disconnect all network connections (3) Connect to a 3G network => A mobile-specific icon correctly displayed in network-applet.
