I was able to uninstall the driver by first stopping lightdm with "sudo
systemctl stop lightdm". After reverting back to Nouveau I was able to
log in, but Unity didn't start. (no window borders or launcher, etc.) I
fixed this by doing the following:

sudo dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
sudo setsid unity

This immediately caused Unity to pop back into place! But I did a reboot
just to be sure and everything is working great again now. :)
