Chris, I don't know if your fix got uploaded, but I tried it for the first time today, and I still have the problem. I started a video in VLC and let it run until the screen blanked, which was 20 minutes. My power settings are set to put the display to sleep after 20 minutes, I was going to do more testing, but X crashes whenever I open the Screensaver window, so I cannot adjust the monitor sleep time less than the screensaver time. I set the display sleep time to 11 minutes and it still went to sleep only after 20 minutes. So it appears as if the fix doesn't really change anything. I don't know if the fix is the reason X crashes when opening the Screensaver window, but is there a command to undo the xset command you mentioned to see if it is the cause of the X crashing problem?
