I was finally able to boot with a Kubuntu Feisty disk due to issues with
the nvidia legacy driver (is my best guess) and repair the filesystem
and it had lots of issues. After the repair the packages upgraded
successfully and I was able to upgrade to the latest version of
everything as of this morning. The box seems much happier now.

Just so you know, this was a fresh install of Feisty and then upgraded
to Gutsy via apt-get (or at least, I'm pretty sure that's how I did it)
and I've been trying to keep up with the latest packages as they come
out, but every so often things have broken and I've had to manually run
apt-get -f install and then apt-get dist-upgrade -u to finalize things
for that run. I guess at some point this corrupted the filesystem or
the recent weird lockups and having to use the power button to reboot.

I ultimately went with Gutsy since it had support for ivtv out of the
box with the in-kernel driver inclusion and all I have to do is update
my Video::ivtv perl module to work with the latest driver headers and
get that pushed upstream and have the debian people include the record-
v4l2.pl script also and things will be perfect. The ptune.pl and ptune-
ui.pl scripts were reworked by me and I was quietly shocked to see them
included in the ivtv related packages with debian and ubuntu when I went
to install feisty and gutsy. Too bad I haven't had time to keep up with
the driver development and keep the perl code in sync with the driver
though.
