With Linux Mint 18 and KDE Neon the bug changes from random to boot up. It happens the first time from a cold boot. After a restart, which means screwing up my hard drive and holding the power button. Then turning it on and the black screen comes back.
I' am very fustrated like Brian. Canonical doesn' t need AMD to repackage the driver for the new X Server. Abandoned by AMD and the commercial distros. Do not advocate AMD, they must have known this problem and ignored it.
