No, this problem exists since the clean install I did for Ubuntu 16.04.1 (I'm using elementary OS Loki stable), WiFi support was missing out-of- the-box, as I mentioned in the link I provided in my comment #1, upon searching for Linux support for this Intel Adapter, I found this page https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi which says that support for IntelĀ® Wireless 3168 (the WiFi+Bluetooth adapter I have in laptop) was added starting Kernel 4.6.
So chances are that 4.4.x may never support it until either 1) someone back-ports the firmware to 4.4 or 2) Ubuntu 16.04.2 (with Kernel 4.8) releases. I filed this bug to track if someone is back-porting hardware support from newer kernels. Also to summarize, I did test following: 1) With stock Kernel 4.4, only Bluetooth works, WiFi is undetected. 2) With Kernel 4.6.x from Mainline, Nothing works, both WiFi and Bluetooth remain undetected. 3) With Kernel 4.7.x from Mainline, WiFi works but Bluetooth is undetected. 4) With Kernel 4.8 from Mainline, both are working just fine! Right now, I'm stuck with Kernel 4.8 (stable release) at the cost of battery life. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1627114 Title: WiFi is not detected for Intel Dual BandWireless-AC 3168 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1627114/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
