@Ben: ok thanks for checking on that. So the issue is not with media-hub then since qtubuntu-media is required for the Unity8 apps to utilize media-hub. Without qtubuntu-media installed, the apps will use the default gstreamer-based plugin in QtMultimedia that should utilize the pulsesink in gstreamer. The issue lies somewhere there.
