Julio Palazón, besides the reverse commit bisect (which you advised is a 
challenge), you would want to provide the previously requested information:
1) Full router manufacturer, model, and firmware.
2) Advise if updating the BIOS of your PC to the latest changes anything.

Also, I have no issues you mentioned with either Intel,
Qualcomm/Atheros, or Broadcom WiFi chipsets (802.11g, 802.11n, and
802.11ac) with 16.04 via Network Manager. Hence, the issues you have are
specific to your environment and/or hardware.
