Today I directly connected my computer through HDMI (with mini- displayport adpater) to the projector and it works fine. It may be important to note that my university has a console which is in-between the projector and the computer that somehow controls what the device the VGA is connected to. I still do not know if my computer would recognize the projector through a direct VGA connection. I'll try to confirm that soon.
