Slows down and hangs seem to be two different problems. My mashines never hang but "slow down" when copying thousands of different files. I found an interesting answer here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/122113/copy-to-usb-memory-stick-really-slow
1'st answer from izx > reason 2, that You can see in my photo. After 3 hours of copying files I copied 29,4GB from 38,7GB but ONLY 20460 from 69502 files. If there is a problem that deserves a bug report then there is one with estimating the real time. At first system showed me 4 hours, then decreased to 2, the last hour lasted 110 minutes.
