Okay.. this is interesting. It seems like the Ubuntu dev version of 4.10 is actually intermittently failing (?!) I guess the next thing to do here is keep rebooting on this version of the kernel and see how often the bug occurs vs doesn't occur, so I can get a feel for a reasonable number of times to reboot with each test kernel once I actually start bisecting.
