LOL. I thought about doing that as well! It's that annoying.

I don't know. It might break the mouse driver completely since as far as
I can tell it's the psmouse driver itself that does Synaptics probing
(see http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/drivers/input/mouse/psmouse-
base.c).

Although I understand your reluctance to fiddle, it would help if you
could try the last workaround to see if I missed any steps. And if it
works you can take off the band-aids :)
