A workaround for this always was to set AlwaysRestartServer=true /etc/gdm/gdm.conf in the [Daemon] section. Try that to see if it helps. You can also do this by adding this to the /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom file: [Daemon] AlwaysRestartServer=true
