The issue being described here may be caused by the fact that older
kernel and QEMU cannot properly identify POWER8NVL processors being used
in the S822LC (8335-GTB) machines.

You might need 7cc851039d643a2ee7df4d18177150f2c3a484f5 kernel commit
(from kernel 4.7), and the following series of patches from QEMU, which
are available since QEMU 2.7:
