Public bug reported: This is not particularly new but I failed to report it (I believe). There are some cases when the graphical install fails at the last step of installing grub. Last time this happened was when doing a ISO test for Ubuntu MATE (Xenial 16.04.2, i386) on a Acer Aspire One and had a forgotten SD card with an older version of Ubuntu in the mmc reader slot. The installer tried mmcblk and failed. Which is fair. The problem is that in that situation there is a dialogue which offers to use a different device, abort the install, or continue without grub. While the dropdown was usable, the "OK" button seems not, so there was no way to resolve this gracefully.
