This is not specific to x11vnc. I'm experiencing this when using Xvnc too (i.e. starting a new X session on :1 or some other display). In my case 'Xvnc' is provided by the 'tigervncserver' package.
The restarting+reattaching trick won't work in this case. Is there any workaround for Xvnc?
