Public bug reported: Unity's launcher seems to have some issues in regard to Terminal in 16.10, or perhaps more specifically, a machine upgraded from 16.04. I haven't installed 16.10 to really know (or care as of right now, I'm too busy with real life to really be bothered to test this further).
When you drag Terminal from the Unity Dash, to the launcher, and then click on Terminal, instead of it opening on that icon, it creates yet another terminal icon, causing you to have two terminals. If you however create that icon in your launcher rather by dragging from Dash, but right-clicking the open one and telling it to Lock to launcher, then it will stay open just fine on it's own. This appears like it could be related from the 16.04 upgrade to 16.10, as it appears there's actually TWO Terminal .desktop files, but one is hidden from the menu. I don't know which one is supposed to stay there or not, or why there's even a duplicate in the first place, but every machine on my network that was upgraded from 16.04 to 16.10, now has this very same issue. I made a video demonstrating this issue so there's no confusion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WchgUd2yLs ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.10 Package: unity 7.5.0+16.10.20161112-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.8.0-37.39-generic 4.8.16 Uname: Linux 4.8.0-37-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.3-0ubuntu8.2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun Feb 12 13:54:56 2017 DistUpgraded: 2017-02-12 00:47:08,665 ERROR got error from PostInstallScript ./xorg_fix_proprietary.py (g-exec-error-quark: Failed to execute child process "./xorg_fix_proprietary.py" (No such file or directory) (8)) DistroCodename: yakkety DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [17aa:221e] NVIDIA Corporation GK107GLM [Quadro K1100M] [10de:0ff6] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo GK107GLM [Quadro K1100M] [17aa:221e] InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-10-10 (125 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) MachineType: LENOVO 20EFCTO1WW ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.8.0-37-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=df32e7f0-11aa-4e43-98d8-fcd5bbeb2c05 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to yakkety on 2017-02-12 (0 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 03/16/2016 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: GNET79WW (2.27 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20EFCTO1WW dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0E50510 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrGNET79WW(2.27):bd03/16/2016:svnLENOVO:pn20EFCTO1WW:pvrThinkPadW541:rvnLENOVO:rn20EFCTO1WW:rvrSDK0E50510WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 20EFCTO1WW dmi.product.version: ThinkPad W541 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.13.0+16.10.20160818.2-0ubuntu2 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.70-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.18.4-1ubuntu6.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.10.2-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.7.1-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20160706-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.12-2 xserver.bootTime: Sun Feb 12 13:50:41 2017 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: product id 5571 vendor CMN xserver.version: 2:1.18.4-1ubuntu6.1 ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 third-party-packages ubuntu yakkety -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1664046 Title: Unity has problems with Terminal in Launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1664046/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
