Hi. I have the same problem with my installation. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04. I get the same popping sounds as other users. It seems like that the sound goes very high for a split second every minute or so and I get the volume notification bubble with it. It also happens when I mute the sound. In that case it unmutes the sound and stays unmutted. Has anybody with understanding of the inner workings of the sound system identified the problem yet? This wasn't an issue for me in Ubuntu 14.04.
