Well, it was not a firmware update that fixed it. I'm on Qubes 4.2 right now and it still has the problem, Qubes is using Xfce 4.12 as it's desktop manager, which I believe is Ubuntu based. Some update to Ubuntu must have fixed the problem and it hasn't been rolled into the Xfce version Qubes is using.
