Public bug reported: VirtualBox 5.1.x (I'm using the version downloaded from virtualbox.org, but seeing that the version in the Ubuntu repositories uses Qt5 as well, I think it applies to it too) causes some focusing issues in GTK-based desktop environments, at least in GNOME Shell and Unity: - in GNOME Shell (host), virtual machine windows can't be moved unless clicking on another window, then moving the virtual machine window; - in GNOME Shell (host), the Activities Overview can't be accessed if a virtual machine is focused; - in Unity (host), clicking on an indicator while a virtual machine is focused results in the indicator menus not being displayed.
The first issue described above used to occur in Unity as well, but it was patched at some point (I read about this a while back, I don't remember where, sorry). I posted a bit more about this, incuding a screenshot with the indicators not working while a VB machine is focused, as well as a workaround, on my website: http://www.webupd8.org/2017/03/fix-for- virtualbox-51x-focus-issues-on.html ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.10 Package: virtualbox (not installed) - I'm using the virtualbox-5.1 package from virtualbox.org but seeing that the version in the Ubuntu repositories uses Qt5 as well, I think it applies to it too ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.8.0-41.44-generic 4.8.17 Uname: Linux 4.8.0-41-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.3-0ubuntu8.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Thu Mar 16 15:45:18 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-03-11 (736 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Alpha amd64 (20150306) SourcePackage: virtualbox UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: virtualbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug yakkety ** Description changed: VirtualBox 5.1.x (I'm using the version downloaded from virtualbox.org, but seeing that the version in the Ubuntu repositories uses Qt5 as well, I think it applies to it too) causes some focusing issues in GTK-based desktop environments, at least in GNOME Shell and Unity: - in GNOME Shell (host), virtual machine windows can't be moved unless clicking on another window, then moving the virtual machine window; - in GNOME Shell (host), the Activities Overview can't be accessed if a virtual machine is focused; - in Unity (host), clicking on an indicator while a virtual machine is focused results in the indicator menus not being displayed.
