Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz
This one closed due to the person reinstalling Ubuntu https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/139624 I upgraded from Feisty, had problems with a locked up Xorg due to custom xorg.conf. Then I removed the xorg.conf and let Xorg do autodetection. This worked and I got into gnome. After logging in, the windows do not have borders. Running metacity --replace fixes this. I'm guessing that compiz tried to start with the emerald border decorator, as I had it setup in Feisty. Compiz fails, metacity runs again but maybe tries to run with emerald which does not work. Result: no borders.
