Now that I'm on Ubuntu 7.x (how do I tell if I'm on 7.04 or 7.10 with all
the automatic updates?) the bug is still present on the website listed. All
you have to do is enter a long string requiring word wrap. It does wrap but
leaves out a significant part of the text. You mention your Java Console
but like most Ubuntu folk do so while keeping the secret from ordinary users
of how to obtain that information for themselves.

So far the only advantage I see to Ubuntu is it's free and good for most but
not all (see this bug) webpage useage so it's a good modern terminal
program. It doesn't appear to be very good for development as its version
of Dos (the terminal) is so arcane that only the secret clan of developers
have a clue of what commands to use. WinE doesn't support enough stuff.
For example I tried installing a driver for a Netgear wireless device and
after several rounds where I learned to do undocumented stuff required to
complete online Ubuntu documentation for that device, it still doesn't work
as it can't find the hardware.

The help users should demand just isn't there. As noted, how can one even
tell what version is running? I've read something some time ago about
support for MS.net but where is it? It seems regarding this new version of
Java you have, the Synaptic Package Manager is just a restricted library
which doesn't allow specifying the latest release of a package so users must
guess how to do it in terminal mode and your version of DOS is not at all
intuitive so any guess is likely to be wrong. The so-called user group in
PDX at least will chat on stuff like passing out free copies of Ubuntu but
for real help good luck.
