Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: scim
I'm using Kubuntu Gutsy on a Compaq Presario v3000z laptop.
I installed Japanese support through System Settings -> Regional &
Language -> Install New Language, meaning through qt-language-selector.
Then I ran im-switch -c, and chose scim as the default input language
for locale en_US. (I don't have any other locales installed, since I
don't know what they are for.)
I restarted, and SCIM worked fine, I could turn it on and off and enter
Japanese text exactly as expected. However, if I closed the lid of my
laptop, then opened it again about 30 seconds later and tried to enter
my password to unlock the machine, it wouldn't accept keyboard input.
The cursor was blinking in the password field, but no matter how many
keys I hit, no dingbats would show up, and I wasn't able to unlock the
machine.
I can move the mouse around and click the buttons; I can keep using the
computer by clicking Switch Session and then Start New Session, although
I won't be able to control any of the applications I've opened in the
current session.
Oddly, if I hold down one key and wait for the monitor to turn off
again, it'll immediately turn back on, and one dingbat will show up in
the input field. I won't be able to actually enter my password, but it
seems as though I can input one character in this way.
Oddlier still, if I lock the session through the K menu, without closing
the screen, everything will work perfectly, and the password field will
accept my input. However, if I lock the session in this way and then
close the screen, the same problem occurs.
With the input method for en_US set to "default," this problem does not
occur, but I can't use SCIM that way.
