I don't have any problems with my ATI card by now, console-switching bugs included. The only problem is compiz, but that's really another issue. BUT: After my post, I had to reinstall my system (I switched to gutsy too early ...) and didn't touch my new lilo.conf anymore (I installed feisty, now upgraded to gutsy). The kernel parameter "vga" was automatically set to "normal" in the new config. That is exactly the workaround described above. To you want me to comment this line and try if everything (e.g. console switching) works fine?
