Public bug reported: I downloaded the last updated Edgy netboot kernel from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/edgy/main/installer- powerpc/current/images/powerpc/netboot/ First thing I noticed wrong on Pegasos was that the Marvell Gigabit Ethernet is not listed for the network interfaces. This requires a kernel module and/or a hotplug patch. Secondly the names are not listed in a user-friendly manner; on Edgy we have eth0: Ethernet or Fast Ethernet eth1: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine II] Debian 3.1r3 PowerPC lists eth0: Galileo Technology Ltd. MV64360/MV64361/MV64362 builtin Gigabit eth1: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine II] eth2: FireWire Ethernet This is much easier to work out which is which. Even if Edgy had the module for Marvell Gigabit, it would still list it as Ethernet or Fast Ethernet leaving the user confused as to which was FireWire an which was Marvell. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Not all ethernet ports listed on Pegasos, also names not "user-friendly" https://launchpad.net/bugs/61258 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
