@Melon Logic

Just to be clear, I am running:
ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 64bit
Geforce GTX 980M/PCIe
using NVidia binary driver - version 375.39 (proprietary, tested)

The unity tweak method works on my system anyway. I don't know if I am
using Intel Microcode or not because I am not sure how I can check this.
But if I do the following the command this is what I get which may
indicate that I am not:

sudo ubuntu-drivers devices
== /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0 ==
vendor   : NVIDIA Corporation
modalias : pci:v000010DEd000013D7sv00001043sd000022DAbc03sc00i00
driver   : xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - distro free builtin
driver   : nvidia-375 - distro non-free recommended
